Mechanical Engineer - Fluid Systems (Hands-On | Plant + Field)
Design It. Build It. Install It. Own It.
At Gurtler Industries, we’re not looking for a desk engineer.
We’re looking for someone who works on real systems, someone who designs fluid equipment, sees it built in our plant, and then goes onsite to ensure it performs for the customer.
If you enjoy solving real-world problems with pumps, piping, and chemical systems and want to see your work operate in the field this role is built for you.
!!!Before You Apply (Read This First)!!!
This role is intentionally hands-on and onsite.
- 100% onsite in South Holland, IL (Monday–Friday)
- Work both in our plant and at customer locations
- Responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and supporting systems in the field
- Not aligned with simulation-only or academic-only experience
- U.S. work authorization required (no current or future sponsorship)
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design fluid handling systems (pumps, valves, tubing, chemical dosing equipment)
- Perform engineering calculations (flow, pressure, pump sizing)
- Create CAD models, drawings, and Bills of Materials (SolidWorks preferred)
- Work directly with manufacturing to build and refine systems
- Support field activities including:
- System installation
- Troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Customer support onsite
- Identify performance issues and implement practical solutions
- Take systems from concept through build and into real-world operation
What Makes Someone Successful Here:
You are not just designing systems—you are owning them.
You will be successful if you:
- Prefer hands-on work in addition to design
- Want to see how systems perform in real-world environments
- Are comfortable working onsite with customers to solve problems
- Collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and field teams
- Take pride in delivering systems that work as intended
What We’re Looking For:

- 2–5 years of experience in:
- Fluid systems
- Equipment design
- Pumps, piping, or chemical systems
- Strong understanding of fluid dynamics and flow systems
- Experience working with real-world mechanical systems (not just theory)
- CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred)
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred:
- Real world hands-on experience with fluid handling, hydraulic systems, or chemical equipment
- Solid exposure to manufacturing, field service, or equipment installation
- Familiarity with sensors, controls, or PLC interfaces
What We Offer:
- 80K-100K salary and comprehensive benefits
